Happy 82nd Birthday!

We celebrated Dad's birthday last night at Ethos in Great Neck. We had a wonderful Greek meal, and it was so great to see the huge smile on Dad's face when they brought our the ginourmous dessert platter. I hope we have many more of these happy occasions. I've included a picture from the festivities.

Physical Therapy

I spent the day at my parents' today with my dad. The nurse came this morning to listen to his heart and take his blood pressure. She said he seems to be doing well. Then, we went to the bank and to lunch. We walked a lot, and he seemed to be fine. He speeds up when he walks for long distances, which makes him get out of breath, but if he doesn't walk too far, he seems to do fine. He definitely needs to walk with someone else for now though. The physical therapist came this afternoon and did a whole bunch of exercises with him, including throwing and catching a ball (pillow) which he did every time. She also worked on his posture. Hopefully he will start out patient physical therapy soon, which I think he will really enjoy.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, and thanks!

Spring Has Sprung

Things continue to progress. Mo and I went to see my parents on Sunday, and we went out for lunch with mom and dad. I definitely feel like he is understanding more, and his speech is almost compeltely free of jargon. He is walking better, although quite quickly, and then it's hard for him to stop. I think this may be a side effect of the medication. I hope that now that the weather is nice, he will be able to go outside more and enjoy the sunshine. I'm going there tomorrow to spend the day with him, so I'll have more updates then! Thanks for checking on us, and feel free to leave a comment if you want!

It Takes Some Time

That's what Gobu said to me on the phone today when I asked him how he was feeling. His speech seems to be getting better, less jargon and more words. He knows who I am when I talk to him on the phone, and seems to want to reassure me that he is doing fine. He's still having trouble understanding when we speak to him, which is frustrating for all of us. I just hope he gets better as the days go on and gets back to where he was last week.

Home

Gobu came home from Beth Israel today. He is much more alert, and is walking pretty well. He made us drive all the way to the parking spot instead of dropping him off at the front door. He is doing well cognitively, but still has some language and comprehension issues. He does better when we write things, and is appropriate, but he has a hard time understanding us when we speak. Part of it may be the hearing loss, and part of it may be that he is still coming out of the seizure. He's talking in about 60% regular speech, and 40% jargon. He was very happy when we got home though, and got the mail himself and opened the door with his key and hung up his jacket.
Mom went to work and I made him an open face grilled cheese sandwich with baby carrots and some orange juice, which he inhaled. He's sleeping now (he's on a little more medication, which is making him very sleepy) and hopefully will wake up feeling refreshed.
Thanks for checking on us.
